About John Elburg
I was born in Doetinchen ,Netherlands on 6 march 1952.
A few years later my family immigrated to Australia.
But on my twelfth year we were back in Doetinchem!
Some time later ,my father taught me the first moves on the chessboard,
our favourite opening was then the Moller Attack of the Italian game,Instructive
for me where that time the games from the great Paul Keres, still his Ausgewahlte
Partien belong to one of my most favourite chess books.
With his books"Theorie Der Schacheroffnungen I did get interested in many
kinds of chess openings as the Latvian Gambit,
so the chess fever caught me and never let me loose!
As a junior chess player ,I played many tournaments, but seen the
isolated position where we lived, there where nearly no opportunity
to meet strong chess players so I decided to take up correspondence
chess and must admit this was the hobby of my live and not much later
I played hundred's of correspondence games with all kind of players over
the world.
I have written several chess books as The Latvian Gambit Made Easy Corapolis
1991, Marshall Attack made easy Corapolis 1994,New developments In The Latvian
Gambit Corapolis 1998 which even made it to a Spanish translation with Nuevos
Avances En El Gambito Leton {Editorial Paidotribo and a CD about my favourite
opening the Latvian Gambit {Latvian Gambit In To The Next Millennium
by John Elburg & Giorgio Ruggeri Laderchi.
I have written many article’s in all kind of chess magazines specially in
ChessMail so When Bertrand Weegenaar did ask me to take over his web books, books, books,
I did not have to think long about it.
I am married over twenty five years with wife Annelies and have three childeren,
one son, Niels and two daughters
Mariel and Aniek.
