1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nf6 Ian stays loyal to the Petroff. A draw in this game means he gets a restday and an opportunity to go for it in the next game with the White pieces. Ian bleibt Russisch treu. Ein Remis in dieser Partie bedeutet, dass er einen Ruhetag bekommt und die MÃglichkeit hat, in der nächsten Partie mit den weiÃYen Figuren zuzuschlagen. 3.d4 Nxe4 4.Bd3 d5 5.Nxe5 Nd7 6.Nxd7 Bxd7 7.Nd2!? A very innocent looking try, but Carlsen evidently felt it was good enough for this particular game and it worked out indeed. Ein sehr unschuldig aussehender Versuch, aber Carlsen war offensichtlich der Meinung, dass er für diese spezielle Partie gut genug war, und es hat tatsächlich funktioniert. 7...Nxd2 Not the only move with 7. ..f5 and 7...Nf6 looking like interesting alternatives. Nicht der einzige Zug, denn 7...f5 und 7...Sf6 sehen wie interessante Alternativen aus. 8.Bxd2 Bd6 Objectively this natural move may be quite inaccurate. The computer's first suggestion is 8...Qe7+. Objektiv mag dieser natürliche Zug ziemlich ungenau sein. Der erste Vorschlag des Computers ist 8...De7+. 9.0-0 h5!? This can be seen as a sign of aggression, but in fact it is more than that, a very clever idea. The simple castle at this point, maintaining symmetry will not maintain it for too long, as after 9...0-0 10.Qh5! Black is forced to weaken his position somewhat with 10...f5. With the move in the game, Ian guards h5 square, accepts the fact that the king will no longer castle and think about activating the h8 rook already. Dies kann als ein Zeichen von Aggression gesehen werden, aber in Wirklichkeit ist es mehr als das, eine sehr clevere Idee. Die einfache Rochade an dieser Stelle, welche die Symmetrie aufrechterhält, wird selbige nicht allzu lange aufrechterhalten, denn nach 9...0-0 10.Dh5! ist Schwarz gezwungen, seine Stellung mit 10...f5 etwas zu schwächen. Mit dem Partiezug bewacht Ian das Feld h5, akzeptiert die Tatsache, dass der KÃnig nicht mehr rochiert und denkt bereits über die Aktivierung des Turms h8 nach. 10.Qe1+ After a surprise, followed a long thought and this move, essentially offering simplifications and basically a draw. After the game Magnus mentioned that he was also not 100% sure whether Ian was not out of book at this point. Nach einer Ãoberraschung folgte eine langes Nachdenken und dieser Zug, der im Wesentlichen Vereinfachungen und im Grunde ein Remis bot. Nach der Partie erwähnte Magnus, dass er sich auch nicht 100% sicher war, ob Ian zu diesem Zeitpunkt nicht aus dem Buch war. [10.c4 was the most tempting move, but the lines could get very complicated here. war der verlockendste Zug, aber die Varianten kÃnnten hier sehr kompliziert werden. 10...dxc4 11.Re1+ Kf8 12.Bxc4 here it's tempting to go for the double attack with Qh4, but actually Black should be very alert here. Hier ist es verlockend, den Doppelangriff mit Dh4 zu wagen, aber eigentlich sollte Schwarz hier sehr wachsam sein. 12...Qf6! The strongest reply, preventing Qf3 first and foremost. An inexplicable error, even though the arising position is still pretty solid and very drawish. It is just not clear why not to play 10...Qe7 instead, which would equalize on the spot, while the move in the game isn't a winning attempt at all. Ein unerklärlicher Fehler, auch wenn die entstehende Stellung immer noch ziemlich solide und sehr remislich ist. Es ist nur nicht klar, warum man nicht stattdessen 10...De7 spielt, was auf der Stelle ausgleichen würde, während der Zug in der Partie überhaupt kein Gewinnversuch ist. [10...Qe7 there isn't much to show here, as the queens come off, the position is totally dry. It started to become clear that Ian was out of balance on this day. Dieser fragwürdige Zug wurde zu schnell gespielt, und ich begann, mir Sorgen um Schwarz zu machen. Ein anständiger Zug, auch wenn Ian der Meinung war, dass dies nicht genau war, unglücklich darüber, dass er c4 in dieser Version erlaubte. 20.c4 Transforming the position somewhat, opening it a little bit, trying to use Black's weird piece coordination. Verwandelt die Stellung etwas, Ãffnet sie en wenig, versucht, die seltsame Figurenkoordination von Schwarz zu nutzen. 20...dxc4 21.Bxc4 b5?? A blunder that is hard to explain. I'd go with the cliches: the nerves, tiredness, pressure and all of that. Ein Fehler, der schwer zu erklären ist. Ich würde die Klischees bemühen: die Nerven, die Müdigkeit, der Druck und all das. Besides that now Black's position is pretty much lost, not able to cope with all the setbacks, he doesn't manage to put up any resistance. Abgesehen davon ist die Stellung von Schwarz jetzt ziemlich verloren, er ist nicht in der Lage, all die Rückschläge zu verkraften und schafft es nicht, Widerstand zu leisten. 22...Kg8 The alternative was still better-22...Qd6 23.Qxa7 g5 and somehow fight on, though White is up a pawn and has all the compensation for it as well, as they say in such cases. Die Alternative war immer noch besser: 22...Dd6 23.Dxa7 g5 und irgendwie weiterkämpfen, obwohl WeiÃY einen Bauern mehr hat und auch die ganze Kompensation dafürt, wie man in solchen Fällen sagt. [22...Qd6 23.Qxa7 is the trick, as 23...bxc4 loses to 24.Qa8+. ist der Trick, denn 23...bxc4 verliert gegen 24.Da8+.] 23.Qxa7 Qd8 This and the next move, puts Black's pieces to a total freeze, though I have to say it's not that there was a great alternative. Dieser und der nächste Zug bringen Schwarz' Figuren zum vÃlligen Stillstand, obwohl ich sagen muss, dass es keine groÃYartige Alternative gab. [23...Bxh3 would have been the best shot. The endgame is more lost than it seems, but there was a trap, though Magnus at the press conference pointed out that he had seen it. wäre die beste Chance gewesen. Das Endspiel ist wesentlich schlechter, als es auf den ersten Blick scheint, da Schwarz immer noch schlecht koordiniert ist und mit einem schwachen c6-Bauern zu kämpfen hat.] 24.Bb3 Rd6 Black is already dead lost, but Rh5-Rg5 was a better try to somehow fish for some miracle. Schwarz ist bereits auf verlorenem Posten, aber Th5-Tg5 war ein besserer Versuch, irgendwie nach einem Wunder zu fischen. 25.Re4 Black is now paralyzed and White can come up with threats at will, for example Rf4 is coming. Schwarz ist nun gelähmt und WeiÃY kann nach Belieben Drohungen aufstellen, zum Beispiel kommt Tf4. 25...Be6 Entering a dead lost queen endgame, but there was no salvation at this point. Geht in ein tot verlorenes Damenendspiel, aber zu diesem Zeitpunkt gab es keine Rettung mehr. 26.Bxe6 Rxe6 27.Rxe6 fxe6 28.Qc5 The queen endgame is just too winning for Magnus to really need his famous endgame skills, though he still shows them in this game, winning this endgame with the biggest of margins. Das Damenendspiel ist einfach zu gewonnen für Magnus, als dass er seine berühmten Endspielfähigkeiten wirklich brauchen würde, obwohl er sie in dieser Partie trotzdem zeigt, indem er dieses Endspiel mit dem grÃÃYten Vorsprung gewinnt. 28...Qa5 29.Qxc6 Qe1+ 30.Kh2 Qxf2 31.Qxe6+ Kh7 32.Qe4+ Kg8 33.b3 The queen on e4 ensures that there is never any perpetual check, as after Qg3+ Kh1, the e1 square is always under control. Die Dame auf e4 sorgt dafür, dass es nie zu einem Dauerschach kommt, da nach Dg3+ Kh1 das Feld e1 immer unter Kontrolle ist. 33...Qxa2 34.Qe8+ Kh7 35.Qxb5 Qf2 36.Qe5 Qb2 37.Qe4+ Kg8 Now Magnus could capture the h4 pawn, but he chooses a more clinical finish, keeping all of his pawns alive. Jetzt kÃnnte Magnus den h4-Bauern schlagen, aber er entscheidet sich für ein klinisches Ende, bei dem alle seine Bauern am Leben bleiben. 38.Qd3 Qf2 39.Qc3 The queen controls all the vital squares. Black has no perpetual here ever. Die Dame kontrolliert alle wichtigen Felder. Schwarz hat hier niemals ein Dauerschach. 39...Qf4+ 40.Kg1 Kh7 41.Qd3+ Too accurate, as on d1 the queen controls everything even better. Zu genau, denn auf d1 kontrolliert die Dame alles noch besser. 41...g6 42.Qd1 Qe3+ 43.Kh1 g5 44.d5 g4 45.hxg4 Prettier was 45.d6! gxh3 46.Qh5+ and the idea is that Black is going to have to allow the queens to come off- 46...Kg7 47.Qg4+ Kf8 48.Qf3+. SchÃner war 45.d6! gxh3 46.Dh5+ und die Idee ist, dass Schwarz den Damentausch zulassen muss - 46...Kg7 47.Dg4+ Kf8 48.Df3+ . 45...h3 46.Qf3 Three pawns is more than enough as well and so Nepo resigns. Drei Bauern sind auch mehr als genug und so gibt Nepo auf. 1-0
Conclusion:Smashing!

The great Robert Ris comes with smashing exercises all  packed in over five hours video entertainment and all pleasant packed with in a Hugh range of different playing strategies.
The user is not only asked to find the best move but above all he or she must also find the best defensive resource.
The type of exercises are comparative to earlier video courses in the Calculation Training series, so there is a wealth of thinking material on this DVD.And if I may say brilliant packed!
Conclusion: Very instructive!

The great master of explanation Grandmaster Ivan Sokolov does not only explain on this double DVD the secrets of pawn play but also included so difficult to understand Hedgehog play.
The Hedgehog was a generic term describing any set-up that was cramped, defensive and difficult to attack.
As we can learn from Sokolov now it refers to a specific formation where complexity of this positions is best illustrated in a famous Kasparov-Kramnik game.
There are different types of Hedgehog positions - many of them coming from the English opening there where the White bishop is fianchettoed.
In this video course Sokolov considers the “basic Hedgehog” pawn structure; like the one coming from the Kan Sicilian.
And choosing the right plan at the right time is the secret of this all.
On part two I enjoyed the explanations of the Isolated pawn structures, see for example coming from the classical Tarrasch defence  section D34.
A other difficult item are the so called “Hanging pawns in the centre” these are more than excellent explained by a great master of play.
And I would like to end with some words of Sokolov: Dynamic timing is everything! Most of the time, temporary pawn sacrifices are an essential part of this “dynamic timing”. While it is difficult to give exact set of rules here, typical ideas do repeat themselves.
