1.d4 Nf6 2.c4 e6 3.Nf3 d5 4.g3 The Catalan remains a posionous weapon at the highest level, even against a top player as well prepared as Levon Aronian. Der Katalane bleibt eine gefährliche Waffe auf hÃchstem Niveau, selbst gegen einen so gut vorbereiteten Spitzenspieler wie Levon Aronian. 4...dxc4 5.Bg2 c5 One of the most principled ways of playing against the Catalan. Black starts fighting for the central squares from the very start. Eine der prinzipiellsten Spielweisen gegen den Katalanen. Schwarz kämpft von Anfang an um die zentralen Felder. 6.0-0 Nc6 7.Qa4 The queen sortie is traditionally considered to be the main-line, though by now there are tons of theory in 7.dxc5 and 7.Ne5 as well. Traditionell gilt der Damentausch als Hauptvariante, obwohl es mittlerweile auch eine Menge Theorie zu 7.dxc5 und 7.Se5 gibt. 7...Bd7 8.Qxc4 b5 9.Qd3 c4 The trends in this system have been changing throughout the past decades. The way to go used to be 9...Rc8, which then got replaced with 8... cxd4 until team Vishy at some point came up with this double edged b5-c4 concept. Black largely gives up control of the center, but makes a headway on the queenside. Die Trends in diesem System haben sich im Laufe der letzten Jahrzehnte verändert. Früher war 9...Tc8 der richtige Weg, der dann durch 8...cxd4 ersetzt wurde, bis das Team Vishy irgendwann dieses zweischneidige Konzept b5-c4 entwickelte. Geht aus der Diagonale heraus und unterstützt den etwas exponierten und vorgeschobenen c-Bauern. 11.Bf4 This hasn't been played at the high level, but the move exists and I am sure it wouldn't come as a major surprise to Levon, who must be booked up in these lines. Das wurde noch nicht auf hohem Niveau gespielt, aber der Zug existiert, und ich bin mir sicher, dass es für Levon, der sich in diesen Varianten bestens auskennen muss, keine groÃYe Ãoberraschung wäre. 11...h6!? A new move and possibly a local surprise, though as we will see it will backfire very badly. Ein neuer Zug und mÃglicherweise eine lokale Ãoberraschung, die allerdings, wie wir sehen werden, sehr schlecht ausgehen wird. 12.a3!? An excellent practical response. The idea is very simple, to secure the c3 square for the knight, not allow the b4 push and there is only one disadvantage- the weakened b3 square. Eine ausgezeichnete praktische Antwort. [15...Na5!? play could then develop- Das Spiel könnte sich dann entwickeln. 16.Ne5 Nb3 17.Rb1 Nxd2 18.Qxd2 0-0 19.f4 Be8 And even though White is having great potential for play on the kingside, thanks to excellent central control, the fact that Black has got the bishop pair and the unopposed dark squared bishop, would give Levon some hopes in the long run. Nxe5?! Realizing the severity of the situation, Levon spent a lot of time, but was unable to find a good response. At this point Black is doing very badly indeed, but still 16...Na5 was a lesser evil. The idea to trade on e5 and then go f6 just doesn't work, as Grigoriy skillfully demonstrates. Levon erkannte den Ernst der Lage und verbrauchte viel Zeit, konnte aber keine gute Antwort finden. The bishop on g7 is not going to have a good time in this game any longer and the kingside weaknesses start looking very worrying for Black. Ein sehr schöner kleiner Zug. Only way to fight on was 19...Bc6 which would lead to a merely disasterous endgame. Dies ist ein Verlustzug. Die Stellung von Schwarz fällt einfach auseinander. 20...Qxa5 21.Qxd7 Nc7 22.fxg5 Black is lost strategically as well as tactically. There is no coordination, no pawn structure, bishop on g7 is dead and so is the king on g8. The rest is easy. Schwarz ist sowohl strategisch als auch taktisch verloren. The game continuation is though no less decisive, with rook entering into the Black camp. Ein anderer Weg zum Sieg wäre, die Türme mit 27.Tf1 zu tauschen, um die letzten Verteidiger loszuwerden. Die Partiefortsetzung ist jedoch nicht weniger entscheidend, da der Turm in das schwarze Lager eindringt. 27...Kh8 28.Rd6 Qb8 29.Rc6 Ne8 30.Nxe6 Rg8 31.Ng5 A dominating final position and a great accomplishment by Grigoriy Oparin. Eine dominante Endposition und eine großartige Leistung von Grigoriy Oparin. 1-0.
