A fine example of play is:
L'Ami,Erwin (2617) - Stevic,Hrvoje (2565) [D20]
Bundesliga 2223 Germany (1.3), 22.10.2022
[L'Ami, Erwin]
1.d4 d5 2.c4 dxc4 Not a surprise from Stevic, who plays the Queen's Gambit Accepted almost exclusively. Keine Ãoberraschung bei Stevic, der fast ausschlieÃYlich das Angenommene Damengambit spielt. 3.e4!? [I decided it was time for a sharp change. For years I played the endgame that arises after Ich beschloss, dass es Zeit für eine deutliche Veränderung war. Jahrelang habe ich das Endspiel gespielt, das sich nach 3.Nf3 Nf6 4.e3 e6 5.Bxc4 c5 6.0-0 a6 7.dxc5 , inspired by Kramnik's games in the late '90's and early '00's. I had decent results, but lately this line has become increasingly thin. ergibt, inspiriert von Kramniks Partien in den späten 90er und frühen 00er Jahren. Ich hatte anständige Ergebnisse, aber in letzter Zeit ist diese Variante immer dünner geworden.] 3...e5 [I had noticed in my preparation that Hrvoje did not jump on the fashionable Ich hatte bei meiner Vorbereitung bemerkt, dass Hrvoje nicht aufgesprungen war auf das aktuelle 3...b5 4.a4 c6 5.axb5 cxb5 6.Nc3 Qb6! which has been all the rage lately. The point is that was in letzter Zeit sehr in Mode gekommen ist. Der Punkt ist, dass 7.Nd5 Qb7 8.Bf4 e5! 9.Bxe5 Nd7 seems to work for Black. That suddenly makes this a very relevant and important line for the evaluation of 3.e4. für Schwarz zu funktionieren scheint. Das macht diesen Zug plÃtzlich zu einer sehr relevanten und wichtigen Variante für die Bewertung von 3.e4.;
The third move in the position, Der dritte Zug in dieser Stellung, 3...Nf6 has lost a bit of its appeal and isn't as popular anymore. The move chosen by Stevic however, is of course fine as well. hat ein wenig an Attraktivität verloren und ist nicht mehr so populär. Der von Stevic gewählte Zug ist aber natürlich auch in Ordnung.] 4.Nf3 exd4 [Another trendy line here, is Eine weitere trendige Variante ist hier 4...Bb4+ the main proponents being Lenier Dominguez and Levon Aronian. This used to be considered a dubious line because of Die Hauptbefürworter sind Lenier Dominguez und Levon Aronian. Diese Variante galt früher als zweifelhaft wegen 5.Nc3 Nf6 6.Nxe5 b5 7.f3 but in reality it is not at all clear. Following aber in Wirklichkeit ist das gar nicht so klar. Nach 7...0-0 8.a4 c5 there are two important recent games to analyze: gibt es zwei wichtige aktuelle Partien zu analysieren: 9.Be3 as in wie in Pranav,A (2436)-Praggnanandhaa,R (2619)/Cattolica Grandiscacchi op 1st 2022 (5)/½-½(and und 9.dxc5 which was first played in die zum ersten Mal gespielt wurde in Vidit,S (2723)-Nguyen,T (2610)/Prague Masters 4th 2022 (7)/½-½) ] 5.Bxc4 Nc6 6.0-0 Be6 7.Nbd2 Taking the game into relatively fresh waters. This move isn't nearly as much explored as the two main alternatives. Das Spiel wird in relativ neue Gewässer geführt. Dieser Zug ist nicht annähernd so erforscht wie die beiden Hauptalternativen. [The old main line is Das alte Hauptabspiel ist 7.Bxe6 fxe6 8.Qb3 Qd7 9.Qxb7 Rb8 10.Qa6 which has been analyzed very deeply and Black seems to be doing well. die sehr gründlich analysiert wurde, und Schwarz scheint sich gut zu schlagen.;
Some years ago I played Vor einigen Jahren spielte ich 7.Bb5 in a correspondence game. After in einer Fernpartie. Nach 7...Bc5 8.b4 Bb6 9.a4 a6 10.Bxc6+ bxc6 11.Nbd2 (11.a5 Ba7 12.Bb2 Nf6 13.Bxd4 Nxe4 14.Bxa7 Qxd1 15.Rxd1 Rxa7) 11...Nf6 12.Ne5 Qd6 13.Nd3 Nd7 14.f4 f5! 15.exf5 Bxf5 16.Re1+ Kf8 17.Nc4 Qd5 18.Nce5 Re8 Black was in fine shape in l'Ami-Fleetwood, ICCF 2017. The endgame after 11.a5 Ba7 12.Bb2 Nf6 13.Bxd4 Nxe4 14.Bxa7 Qxd1 15.Rxd1 Rxa7 is an important alternative. In correspondence chess this should lead to an easy draw, but in an OTB-game, White may still be able to pose some practical problems. stand Schwarz gut In l'Ami-Fleetwood, ICCF 2017. The most played move in the position. After for instance Der meistgespielte Zug in der Stellung. Nach zum Beispiel 7...Bc5 which looks like a normal developing move, White plays was wie ein normaler Entwicklungszug aussieht, spielt WeiÃY 8.Bxe6 fxe6 9.Qb3 and gets a much better version of the main lines after 7.Bxe6. und erhält nach 7.Lxe6 eine viel bessere Version der Hauptvarianten.] 8.Qa4!? When during preparation my engine showed that 8...0-0-0 is the only move here, I realized this may be very hard to handle for Black over the board. There may be other options for White after 8...0-0-0 as well, it's a rich position that is totally unexplored for now. rettet den Tag. I knew that the previous move of my opponent had to be a (big) mistake, since the engine didn't show a decent alternative to 8...0-0-0, but now I had to find the reason why. I spent quite some time on Ich wusste, dass der vorherige Zug meines Gegners ein (groÃYer) Fehler sein musste, da die Engine keine vernünftige Alternative zu 8...0-0-0 anzeigte, aber nun musste ich den Grund dafür finden. Ich verbrachte ziemlich viel Zeit mit 9.Ba6!? which is indeed a direct winning attempt. However, I couldn't assess the situation after was in der Tat ein direkter Gewinnversuch ist. The point is that ist entscheidend. Der Punkt ist, dass 11...Bxd4 12.Bg5 Qg6 13.Nxd4 doesn't give Black any time to take on g5 as White will just take on c6. It is not nearly as good as 17.f4! but Black still has an unpleasant task ahead. White has the simple plan of pressuring the queenside with Rab1 and Rfc1. 19...b5 [This doesn't quite work. It's important that Das funktioniert nicht ganz. The bishop is the superior minor piece with play taking place on two wings, and the outside passed a-pawn is particularly hard to deal with for a knight. 26...f6 27.a4 Kf7 28.g3 Nc3 29.a5 Ra6 30.Bb4 Ne2+ 31.Kf1 Nd4 32.Bc3 Nb5 33.Bd2 h5 34.Rb1 Nd6 35.h4 [The cleanest is Die sauberste ist 35.Rb6 Rxb6 36.axb6 when the black king has to approach the b-pawn, giving White the chance to win on the kingside. As luck would have it, the position was too good to squander. Normally this type of material balance should be drawish, but Black's pieces are misplaced in this particular instance, and he is not in time to regroup successfully. 41...Kd5 [My main line ran Meine Hauptlinie verlief 41...Kd7 42.Kg6 Ke6 43.Kxh5 Rd6 44.Be3 Rd5+ 45.Kg6 Rxa5 46.h5 Ra8 and now White should avoid und jetzt sollte Weiß vermeiden 47.h6 Rg8+ 48.Kh5 Rh8! with a draw.
